El Injerto's Achievements
El Injerto is now one of the most famous farms in specialty coffee. Its name rose to global prominence at the 2002 Guatemala Cup of Excellence. Out of 33 winning farms, two of their coffees were nominated, with one of them immediately securing third place in its debut. This coffee, with its splendid, floral, and exceptional flavor, continued to captivate people worldwide. In the 2008 COE, it finally won first place, and its price of $80.20 per pound set a new record for the highest transaction price in the Guatemala COE at that time.
The first owner of this farm, Mr. Jesús Aguirre, began the farm in 1874. He started by cultivating sugarcane, tobacco leaves, and other crops, and then began cultivating coffee in 1900. Injerto is named after a fruit native to the region. Currently, the 3rd and 4th generations of the Aguirre family have been managing the farm since 1956, and it is known as one of the world's leading coffee farms, both in name and in reality.
