La Reforma Farm

La Reforma Farm is a historic farm that began in 1892 when Rafael Alvarez Lalinde cultivated the slopes of the Santa Ana Volcano. Don Rafael, originally from Colombia, moved to this area and built a new legacy using his ideas and knowledge of coffee production. The farm has been passed down through generations for over 100 years and is currently managed by the fifth generation.
Throughout its long history, the Alvarez family has faced various challenges such as climate change, pests, and coffee rust. In 2011, Bourbon from La Reforma Farm achieved an excellent score of 91.72 points and placed third in the Cup of Excellence 2011. However, around 2012, Central America was hit by a widespread coffee rust epidemic, which occurred just as the farm was starting to thrive. There was even a year with no harvest at all. However, they replanted Bourbon seedlings and, through meticulous care, revived the Bourbon variety and the farm. Thanks to their unwavering passion and strong belief in preserving their tradition, they have continued to produce the Bourbon variety. In recent years, they have also started producing small quantities of new varieties like SL28, Geisha, and Orange Bourbon in separate plots.
